Day Two First Stop - Pink Water Tank Site at Washington City (again)

Henry points to the road leading to the tracks and there goes that famous pose again.

The sign leads the way.

Looking closely at the large Eubrontes print.  Note the mound created by the heavy foot yet the trackway has a relatively short step.

A view of a Eubrontes trackway.

Day Two Second Stop - Driving Through Zion Park
We got a flat tire on our way out of Washington City, and where would be a better place to stop but at a Sinclair gas station (see the dinosaur).

We stopped here to search for the Petrified Wood layer just below the Kayenta and found some prized specimens of petrified wood and some excellent agate as well.

Passing through Zion National Park we saw some awesome Navajo and Kayenta exposures of the Triassic and Jurassic with beautiful cross sections of petrified sand dunes, lakeshores, and canyons that were just spectacular.  Leaving Zion we entered K1 exposures and many of the vermillion cliffs known in the area as well.

Day Two Third Stop - Moqui Cave

Our next stop was at Moqui Cave, a very popular tourist destination for track lovers and fluorescent minerals.  There is a large collection of dinosaur tracks from southern Utah along with one of the largest collections of fluorescent minerals in the US.  Many are from the west and NJ which was good to see some hometown gems way out in the middle of nowhere.  The tour guide was more than helpful in providing some of the local geology and track sites in the area.  So if you are ever in that area say hello to the fellow at the Moqui Cave.

A sample of their collection of fluorescent minerals.

Day Two Fourth Stop - Print site near Wire Pass

No dinosaur prints were found, but along the way we found red agate petrified wood and ripple rock.

Day Two Fifth Stop - Grand Staircase via Cottonwood

The lower part of the Escalante Grand Staircase.

Evidence of Cretaceous strata "K3".

Another view of the lower part of the Grand Staircase.

It's been a while so John strikes that famous pose again.

John standing on K1 strata.

Stopped at an area where drastic uplifting occurred.

Beautiful views of the Escalante Grand Staircase. The lizard's hand/feet look like they could form Rhynchosauroides-like prints.

Day Two Sixth Stop - Camped at Paria Camp Grounds - White House Trailhead
A panoramic view of the camp grounds.

Moqui steps in the sandstone (dunes) used to climb up the hill.

Henry does not look too happy about his first time camping.

John says there's nothing to worry about.

One of the things that Henry is afraid of encountering at night.

I don't look nervous at all.

I thought I heard something.

John waiting until I sleep to make howling noises.
