Fossils From Pennsylvania
Suedberg Site - Middle Devonian (375 mya) exposure of olive-gray siltstones and claystones of the Mahantango Formation.  The slate here is very weathered and fractured making digging easy but salvaging intact large specimens impossible.  The environment was once of a shallow sunlit sea-floor rich in small filter-feeding organisms. The fossils here comprise mostly of brachiopods and bryozoans, and a few trilobites and crinoids.  What I like about collecting at this site are the colors of the fossils.  The minerals from this area have fossilized these ancient creatures painting them red, orange, yellow, blue, and purple.

How many rainbow colored trilobites do you have?

Turbotsville Site - Middle Devonian (395 mya) exposure of medium-dark gray fissile shale to a calcareous clay shale and argillaceous limestone of the Mahantango Formation.  The slate here varies from fractured to fairly solid which allows for collecting intact specimens.  The fossils here comprise of brachiopods, bryozoans, crinoid parts, and a few trilobites.  What I like about collecting at this site is the great preservation of the fossils and the diversity.
